General Aviation Education for Adults and Youth

While Chapter 838 is strong on Youth Education, we also have a focus of Adult or Continuing Education for Pilots or those in related areas. While these activities are also open to youth who are interested, the focus is more for adults. Some of these educational offerings include:

Chapter Monthly Gathering

Chapter Meetings:

Chapter 838 has General Meetings on a monthly basis. The majority of these meetings include an educational or informative presentation on aviation or aerospace. Some recent presenters have included a representative from the FAA, an expert in Aviation Weather from the National Weather Service, a Product Specialist from an aviation-related company and presentations by Chapter members on current aviation events. Anyone is welcome at these meetings, and we generally have dinner together before each meeting.

Aviation Training Night: (formerly VMC/IMC Club)

Safe flying is accomplished, in part, by anticipating anything that can go wrong and having a plan to mitigate any problems. This club, which meets on Tuesday evenings, has the purpose of building and  maintaining pilot proficiency through training, discussion and interaction with other pilots. This is a great group for new pilots to participate in as well, so that they can learn from those with more flying time.  Meets monthly on the first Tuesday of the month from 7pm to 9pm.  Hosted by Gene Traas, CFI/CFII.

Monday Night Open Shop:

EAA Chapter 838 is fortunate to have a fully equipped workshop in our Chapter Building. Each Monday evening, the shop is open for any members to drop in and work on the current Chapter project. We may be helping a member finish their plane, building a pancake cooker for our annual pancake breakfasts or many other activities. We welcome members, youth or adult, to drop in on Monday evenings and get some practical experience in homebuilding. And there are always experienced folks available to provide guidance and education.
